Carer Duties

In order to ensure staff and client safety Care Works operates a system that complies with relevant Occupational Health, Safety and Rehabilitation legislation through the identification, assessment, minimization, elimination and management of Occupational Health and Safety risks and emergencies

All Care Works care staff are instructed to exercise appropriate universal infection control procedures. These precautions include the wearing of protective gloves, tabards and eyewear as appropriate, (see procedure manual).

In accordance with Care Works ‘Minimal Lift’ policy, staff are trained and instructed ‘NEVER’ to lift or bear the total weight of a client.  Furthermore, two person lifts are only to be attempted in circumstances where an occupational therapist has assessed this requirement and approved the lifting technique. In every other circumstance lifts/transfers are to be effected by the use of a suitable mechanical hoist provided by the client.

Care Works reserves the right to withdraw its employees from direct service provision if a breech of OH&S legislation is noted.
